What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
When David was serving in the military, his Humvee was accidentally hit by a 500 pound bomb, a result of friendly fire. His Captain and mentor, who was sitting beside him in the vehicle, was killed. David was wounded, but miraculously none of his injuries were life-threatening. When the investigators went to search the site, they found that the vehicle was completely burned to the ground along with everything in it. So they were very surprised to find David’s Bible still intact. It was opened up to a page that featured Isaiah 43:2 which says: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

God graciously spared David’s life that day and gave us this promise, which we have clung to over our 25 years of marriage, raising four children, and serving overseas.

What do you love about serving at MRCA?
I love so many things about MRCA! Personally, I have been greatly fulfilled with my job, which I jokingly say is the best job at the school… I get all the joy of spending time with our sweet K5 students, but I don’t have to do any of the planning or grading! Another thing that is so special to me about MRCA is the community I experience there amongst staff and teachers. It is invaluable to me, and I’ve come to cherish it a great deal. As a parent of an MRCA student, I appreciate the way that several teachers have poured into my daughter’s life. Their concern goes beyond her academics — they encourage her, challenge her ways of thinking, and frankly just love her well.

What are your hobbies?
Horseback riding, singing, painting, eating good food

What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
Our very best friends came to visit us while we were living in Kenya and took us to the most amazing location I’ve ever been to in my life, called Ol Donyo. There really is no way to adequately describe it, but I’ll just leave you with this one picture: horseback riding with the zebra and giraffe on the African plain.

What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?
Spending time with my family

Which Bible story has grown your faith the most?
I’ve always loved the story of Esther.
